The Emiratis finished last in a three-nation tournament against Kenya and the Netherlands that same year, and the 1995 tournament against second-team full-members India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka also ended with the same result. In June-July 2011, the Emiratis faced Kenya during the 2011-2013 Intercontinental Cup in Nairobi, where they won the Intercontinental Cup match and the series of two one-day games ended in a draw. Against Ireland, Shaiman Anwar scored the first century of the tournament for the Emiratis with 106 runs and the side recorded an overall score of 278/9. After Ireland equalized the handicap in the last over, the Emirates still lost by two wickets. However, they had already qualified for the 2014 World Twenty20 by beating the Netherlands by ten runs in the quarterfinals. The Emirates hosted the 2009 ACC Twenty20 Cup where they finished second after losing to Afghanistan by 94 runs in the final; during the tournament, the team won all four group games and the semi-final against Oman. At the 2009 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in South Africa, the Emirates finished seventh, missing out on the 2011 Cricket World Cup. They then visited Namibia, where they won the Intercontinental Cup match and two more one-day matches. That same year they played their first Intercontinental Cup game against Nepal, with Ali Asad taking nine wickets in the first innings. preliminary round eliminated. The Emirates finished fifth at the 2001 ICC Trophy in Canada, missing out on the 2003 Cricket World Cup. At the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes that same year, they managed to defeat Australia twice. The hosts made their first ODIs against India and Pakistan at the 1994 Austral-Asia Cup, hosted in the Emirates, but were eliminated after two group stage defeats.
